The story behind the name
A name that carries a responsibility.
Loma Alta honors Enrique Zatarain Sanchez. Born in El Recodo, Sinaloa, he later moved to Loma Alta, the place that shaped his enduring commitment to patience, responsibility, and care for what would grow beyond him.
Enrique lived in Loma Alta with his family until he was around 12. When his parents moved to Mazatlán, he was not ready to leave the ancestral land he loved. He stayed behind on the farm for a time, tending cows, caring for horses, and helping work the land. Those early responsibilities cultivated the resilience and stewardship that would define his life.
He later joined his family in Mazatlán and built a farm of his own. Jorge remembers riding horses, feeding cows, working the pasture, and helping care for corn, mango trees, and papayas. The farm was more than a place. It was where Enrique showed his grandchildren what it means to care for animals, honor the land, and build something that can endure.
That example lives in Loma Alta. We bring the same commitment to every engagement: understand the whole landscape, strengthen what supports growth, and help leaders steward work that will serve people well for years to come.
Founder and Principal
Jorge Enrique Zatarain
Jorge is a first generation Mexican American nonprofit and philanthropic leader raised in the Inland Empire. He brings more than eight years of experience leading complex operations, programs, partnerships, and community initiatives.
He holds a Master of Nonprofit Leadership and Management from the University of Southern California, where he graduated with honors, and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from California State University, San Bernardino. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.
